(from CRU home page): The CRU (Universities Network Committee) was created in 1990 by the Ministry of Education. Owing to its expertise, it has a consulting function (helping the Ministry in its reflection and choices), as well as a prospective one (assuming technological and economic intelligence). It also has a federative mission, as it sets up and leads communities of experts and organizes the development of applicative services which are used by the academic community. Working in close collaboration with numerous partners (such as GIP RENATER, UREC, etc.), it represents the academic community in relation to the European university and research networks.

The federation in france is called CRU Federation.
